Cancer risks due to long-term Vitamin D deficiency
Q :
by Julie from Winters, California
Hello Dr. Mercola, I have a vitamin D deficiency that went undiagnosed for 10 years, which led to osteomalacia. Thanks to one of your articles I read on Mercola.com last fall, I became aware of the symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency, asked my doctor to test me, and I am now in recovery, with my D levels within normal range. My question is, do the elevated cancer risks disappear when Vitamin D levels are optimized or is there a lasting effect? Thank you, Julie Ries Winters, CA

Learn How to Ask Your Own Question
I am delighted that the information I posted was able to help you.  Please remember that vitamin D is not only a potent prevention of cancer but it also treats cancer.  Some of the hottest cancer research right now is developing vitamin D analogs to treat certain cancers.

They are working on analogs because they can't sell the real vitamin D for a profit.

But the main point is that once you get your vitamin D levels in the healthy range (ideally from sunshine not oral vitamin D) then any malignant cells that may have developed should rapidly reverse assuming you have the other 12 cancer factors in place that I have previously addressed.

Dear Dr. Mercola,

I keep trying to write a thank you and words are just not enough.  I keep going over the 2000 limit!  It's very difficult to keep this short.  I have a very interesting story, too much to write here.

I am only 37 years old.  I suffered for ten years, I spent almost five of those confined to a wheelchair because of my extreme pain and weakness.  I found your website because I never stopped searching for an answer to regain my health.  No matter how sick I got, I kept reading and researching.  God made me persistent for a reason.

Unfortunately recovery from osteomalacia is horribly painful, even worse than the disease itself.  But after ten years what is a few months of recovery?  I am not quite running circles around everyone yet, but that is my plan!

THANK YOU!  My family thanks you, as well.  This affected all of us, and we are getting our lives back!...
