Q :
by Dr. Sopchak from Kirksville, Missouri
I am a second year medical Student in an Osteopathic institution. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the conventional medical educational system as you see it? What items that I am learning should I put stock in and which should I take with a grain of salt?

Great question as the answer has very broad implications.  Conventional medicine, I really don't think it is at all appropriate to call it traditional medicine as that would imply that the model has been around for centuries and that simply is not the case at all.

Conventional is far more appropriate a term as it is what is typically being practiced today and has been for about the last century when the AMA in the US, with the help of the drug companies, help to squash the true traditional medicine, which today is frequently referred to as alternative medicine. My favorite term for this type of practice though is natural medicine as it is a system based on thousands of years of empirical data that relies on the assumption that your body has an innate and intrinsic healing ability if it is given what it needs and exposure to toxic influences are minimized.

Getting back to your question, conventional medicine certainly has is place. I believe its most appropriate if restricted to two areas, one is diagnosis and the other is the treatment of acute trauma. The use of blood tests, diagnostic imaging and pathological evaluation can provide a very useful tool to rule out serious illness that can easily be overlooked by well intentioned natural medical practitioners.

So I would learn very well the diagnostic tools that you will learn in school as they will serve you will. Where you will need to exercise extreme caution is believing the treatment recommendations. You can be virtually 100% guaranteed that the model has been flawed by massive conflict of interests at the highest level. Virtually all conventional physicians are unaware, as I was when I was in the system, that they have been seriously brainwashed by the multinational drug corporations.

Drugs are virtually never the long-term answer to any medical problem. They can provide short-term relief when addressing the underlying cause of the problem.

Once you understand that you can teach your patients this so they can use you appropriately as a health coach to guide them in their process of taking control of their own health.

If we could just convince people to divorce themselves from the allopathic (conventional) medical system once they have their diagnosis, we could save millions of lives every year.  Cancer "treatment," for example, kills hundreds of thousands of people in the U.S. alone every year.  It is barbarous, cruel and unnecessary.  At the same time, there are at least 350 "traditional,"  non-toxic treatments for cancer that really heal it - permanently.  This situation is so ridiculous that once the public becomes aware of it there may be mass lynchings of allopathic "doctors." ...

Well, unfortunately, being that my new tumor is constricting my colon, I will have to do the "slash" portion ... and I so wish people would not be so dramatic with the "slash, poison, burn" thing.  We do what we have to do when we have to do it.  When I was first diagnosed, 8 years ago, I didn't know anything about anything alternative, so I slashed, poisoned the dogcrap out of myself, and burned both sides of my chest.  Ever since then, I've been following LEF's breast cancer protocol ... but you know what?  It's back ... or most likely never really went away.  That being said, those supplements, exercise, clean eating (organic only and the meat I eat is grass-fed organic) probably kept me from being really sick way earlier, but they didn't stop it from showing its face again.  So, where does that leave me now?  I have to have the surgery and my alternative methods didn't stop it altogether  I do see a naturopath and a nutritionist ... I have more faith in letting the body heal itself, but I will do whatever I have to do to live to be very old.

It's not fair to say that just because Aunt Fannie Lou Edith lived with cancer to be 90 years old, that we all will.  Not all cancers are created equal ... some have the capability to kill you quickly and some don't.  Some women I know were Stage 1s and now they're metastasized ... there's just no way to know.  So, would I say screw it all and just not do anything?  Not a chance.  I'm only 48 and have a long way to go.  Would I do chemo again?  Only if I knew, beyond a doubt, that the drug would kill my tumor (which there are assays that will show ... I'm investing in that this time).

Unfortunately, there's not much science behind so many hypes that claim to cure cancer ... if you can show me some "cures" that have more than just testimonials, I'd certainly give it a try!  :)

Melissa,

I have read hundreds of letters at http://www.hacres.com, where Rev. George Malkmus tells about being healed of colon cancer through a raw vegan diet and juicing.  People have healed a myriad of diagnoses using his diet...you should go read their testimonies!  I have proven that improved diet can reverse diabetes, but my allopathic physician asked me to leave because she insisted that she was expected to give me drugs or insulin and could not approve my "alternative methods!"  I'm now searching for an open-minded doctor.

May God bless you.  Hang in there!

"I have just learned that the same breast cancer has now metastasized to my colon, so if you could point me toward some of those cures, I would be deeply grateful!" -- Melissa

I would highly recommend a video by Dr. Lorraine Day, which describes how she overcame breast cancer through diet and lifestyle.  Dr. Day is a doctor who realized, through her own experiences, how powerful diet can be in turning around a deadly cancer.

Hey Bill, you said that you know of alternatives methods to really heal cancer permanently.  I have been reading research on supplements, for nearly 10 years now, in regards to breast cancer.  I have been taking many of them for the same amount of time, as a breast cancer survivor.  I have just learned that the same breast cancer has now metastasized to my colon, so if you could point me toward some of those cures, I would be deeply grateful!  I'm very particular about what "cures" I believe really work ... there has to be some substantiation to it in the way of research, but I would certainly like to see some of what you're talking about!  ;)

Thank you,
Melissa

Just FYI about my grandmother who died of cancer of the liver. She lived to be 87 years old. She told me as a child that she would rather die than see a doctor because all they wanted to do was kill her anyway (her description). She nonetheless did not do anything for her cancer at all, she lived to be 87 BUT she did die of cancer and she suffered for about 11 days in hospital (my uncle took her to the ER. I wish she would have atleast tried nutrition and herbs, she probably could have cured it. But just showing you that going without treatment from conventional medicine would be far better than going with it. She didn't suffer nearly what she would have if she went with medical treatment for her cancer.

p.s. sorry for all the sub posts, I am limited to 2000 characters....
