4 Steps to Become a Calmer Person

1) Forget Things You Can’t Fix Now

What’s the point of thinking about work when you are at home? Your family deserves better attention. There’s nothing you’ll be able to do to gain back the time you missed.

2) Live In the Now

This is by far one of the most important technique to achieve Zen Master-like calmness. Miraculous things can and will happen when you focus. Once you started doing this, you will become more focused in everything you do. After a while, you will see that you are no longer worrying about what future will hold for you.

3) Learn To Let Go

Not all problems in your life need to be fixed. In the end, you can’t have everything. So let it go, stop trying to fix it. Minimize the damage and go on with your life.

4) Set A Limit Switch To All The Three Techniques

Take a piece of paper and a pen and write the three above techniques down. Then write down the cases when the three techniques are no longer valid. Being calm is important. But not to the extent of losing your job, or your family. Certain things do require urgency. But if you keep all four techniques in mind, you will remain calm even though the whole world is in chaos.

Anyone who's achieved a certain level of enlightened thinking will tell you that meditation is the way to peace and contentment. Unfortunately, meditation takes much effort and discipline, and often many years of daily practice to achieve the real juicy benefits.
Luckily, modern science has developed technology that will do the meditating for you! It's far more powerful and faster than doing it traditionally. I have personally been using this technology for 2 years and it is fantastic - and nothing could be easier! Put on headphones and relax - it even works if you fall asleep! Here are some of the organizations that market this technology:

Back in high school, there was a fashion of birthday gifts - plaques with some wisdoms. For my 16th, I've got the one saying:

God, give me the courage to change the things I can, endurance to withstand the things I cannot and the wisdom to know the difference between those two.

I still adhere to this.

From the Frank Capra movie "Meet John Doe", 1941, starring Gary Cooper -

The anti-establishment, anti-materialistic
Colonel warns John about the corrupting, decadent influence of money and luxury:
"You're gonna get used to a lot of stuff that's gonna wreck ya...I've seen
guys like you go under before, guys that never had a worry. Then they got
ahold of some dough and went goofy." In a marvelous monologue, he has a term
for people who are corrupted by wealth - they're heels or "heelots."

When they got ya, you've got no more chance than a road rabbit...You're
walkin' along, not a nickel in your jeans, you're free as the wind. Nobody
bothers you. Hundreds of people pass you by in every line of business. Shoes,
hats, automobiles, radios, furniture, everything, and they're all nice loveable
people. They let you alone...Then you get ahold of some dough and what happens?
All those nice, sweet, lovable people become heelots. A lotta heels! They
begin creepin' up on ya, tryin' to sell ya something. They get long claws
and they get a stranglehold on ya and ya squirm and ya duck and ya holler
and ya try to push 'em away, but you haven't got a chance. They've got ya.
The first thing you know, you own things - a car, for instance. Now your whole
life is messed up with a lot more stuff. You get license fees and number plates
and gas and oil and taxes and insurance and identification cards and letters
and bills and flat tires and dents and traffic tickets and motorcycle cops
and courtrooms and lawyers and fines - and a million and one other things!
And what happens? You're not the free and happy guy you used to be. You've
gotta have money to pay for all those things. So you go after what the other
fella's got. And there you are - you're a heelot yourself.

Funny - I've been following these suggestions by not watching the news, reading the paper, listening to the debates or caring who 'wins' the election - but the reaction my subsequent calm generates is anything but.
