Breast-Feeding Triggers Pulses of Feel-Good Hormone

When a baby breast-feeds, it triggers a flood of the hormone oxytocin that releases milk from the mammary gland, and a feeling of love and trust in the mother.

New research suggests that breast feeding not only taps the normal brain cells involved in secreting oxytocin, but also uses dendrites to secrete the hormone. Dendrites normally create communication channels between brain cells.

This results in bursts of the hormone released at regular intervals.

The breast is simply the best
 In any baby feeding contest...

But not all moms are blessed with this means as some because of things like inverted nipples just cannot breast feed and even pumping can be a nightmare, but if you can it's the very best, especially if mom has been eating nutrituous foods during and after the pregnancy ......Alternatively the Weston Price foundation has more info on how to make infant formula from scratch...

In addition there's so much more that is transferred from mom to the baby like unconditional love and many, many more things we don't know about. I believe it's a very simple yet highly complex process because there's so much going on we don't know about ......

After breastfeeding 5 kids, I'm inclined to agree.  I think most of my "depression" (if you want to call it that) was caused by lack of sleep.

There is nothing like holding a warm, sweet baby and watching him or her nurse contentedly.  After breastfeeding 4 babies (I'm still nursing the fourth) I can say from personal experience that what's in the article is true and accurate.

I wish each mother was able to experience the closeness and sweetness of breastfeeding her baby.  Many moms try, but quit if it's difficult or painful.  I had trouble with my firstborn, and after 6 weeks of agony, we finally got the hang of it.  It's all been worthwhile, many times over.  The last day I breastfeed will be momentous - an end of a sweet chapter in my life.

So that's interesting.  We know the longer a baby is breastfed, the higher a possible change in IQ.  So maybe it's good for mom's brain as well?  We certainly need it, after 9 months of pregnancy brain!
