Codex Alimentarius: Population Control Under the Guise of Consumer Protection
Codex AlimentariusThe Codex Alimentarius, Latin for Food Code, is a very misunderstood organization that most people have never heard of. According to the official Codex website, the purpose of this commission is in "protecting health of the consumers and ensuring fair trade practices in the food trade, and promoting coordination of all food standards work undertaken by international governmental and non-governmental organizations."

The history of Codex began in 1893 when the Austria-Hungarian empire decided it needed a specific set of guidelines by which the courts could rule on cases dealing with food. The UN met in 1962 and decided that Codex should be re-implemented worldwide in order to protect health of the consumers.

But since 2002, the Codex Alimentarius Commission has covertly surrendered its role as an international public health and consumer protection organization. Under the helm of big industry, the sole purpose of the new codex is to increase profits for the global corporate juggernauts.

Soon every food and beverage you put into your mouth, including water, will likely be highly regulated by Codex Alimentarius. These soon-to-be mandatory standards will apply to every country that is a member of the WTO (World Trade Organization). If countries do not follow these standards, then enormous trade sanctions will result. Some Codex standards that will take effect on December 31, 2009:

• All nutrients are to be considered toxins/poisons and are to be removed from all food because Codex prohibits the use of nutrients to "prevent, treat or cure any condition or disease"
• All food (including organic) is to be irradiated, removing all toxic nutrients from food (unless eaten locally and raw).
• Nutrients allowed will be limited to a Positive List developed by Codex which will include such beneficial nutrients like Fluoride (3.8 mg daily) developed from environmental waste.
• All nutrients (e.g., CoQ10, Vitamins A, B, C, D, Zinc and Magnesium) that have any positive health impact on the body will be deemed illegal under Codex and are to be reduced to amounts negligible to humans' health. You will not even be able to obtain these anywhere in the world even with a prescription.
• All advice on nutrition (including written online or journal articles or oral advice to a friend, family member or anyone) will be illegal.
• Worldwide implementation of unlabeled GMOs into crops, animals, fish and trees.

Population control for money is the easiest way to describe the new Codex.

Degraded, demineralized, pesticide-filled and irradiated foods are the fastest and most efficient way to cause a profitable surge in malnutrition and preventable degenerative disease -- for which the most appropriate course of action is always pharmaceuticals. Big Pharma has been waiting for this opportunity for years.

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

Codex Alimentarius claims to have an altruistic purpose: "to formulate and harmonize food standards to protect public health and ensure fair practices in the food trade."

This sounds all well and good, until you dig a little deeper and find out that what Codex is really all about is control. Control of your food supply, your ability to purchase supplements and to a large extent to control what you can do with YOUR body.

Right now, compliance with Codex standards is voluntary, but it may become mandatory by 2010.

How Would Mandatory Codex Standards Impact You?

A growing number of health advocacy groups, including yours truly, are trying to get the word out that Codex is not about protecting you from unsafe food or supplements, it’s about eliminating competition for pharmaceutical, chemical and agribusiness corporations. The drug companies, for instance, are tired of people being able to buy supplements at their local grocery store. And agribusiness is tired of people telling them not to use hormones and chemicals in their products – additives that add up to greater profits for them.

As a result, if Codex standards become law, food standards and trade will be completely controlled worldwide, and the following inferior food rules could be imposed upon you as well:

• Using natural substances to prevent and treat disease may be prohibited

• Genetically modified organisms would be legalized

• Antibiotics and hormones in animal feed would be mandated

• The allowable level of pesticides, toxins and drugs in foods may be raised

• Consumers may be prohibited from purchasing traditional herbs and medicines

Though this may sound incredulous, it’s already underway. Consider that in the United States, GM foods are widely grown, sold and consumed (without being labeled as such). In Europe, however, acceptance of GM foods has been much more cautious -- and all GM ingredients must be labeled on food packages.

The United States has already begun to pressure Europe to accept their potentially toxic GM crops, but for now has been met with some resistance. Once the global standards of Codex become mandatory, however, GM crops would be adopted worldwide in order to “harmonize” food standards and “ensure fair practices in the food trade.”

The REAL Purpose of Codex

The pharmaceutical, chemical and agribusiness corporations stand to make huge amounts of money from Codex. Imagine a world where there are no legal options for “health” besides drugs and contaminated foods, and no nutrients or ways to protect yourself from pesticides, hormones and foreign genes in your food.

Again, if you listen to any of the propaganda being distributed about Codex you’ll think it’s all about protecting you. In reality, it’s all about control for big business, which wants to make more money.

One of their key plans is narrowing the amount of nutrition and health information about vitamins and minerals that the public will be allowed to receive, asserting that only drugs can contain label claims for being suitable for the prevention, alleviation, treatment or cure of any disease, disorder or physiological condition.

They will try to use the argument that nutrients should be treated as toxins, and that foods and nutrients are not useful in treating disease. They will also push the point that you should not have an individual choice about what you want to put into your body, instead their “science” should dictate that.

Knowing this, do you really want to let them dictate what you can do with your body?

If you want to take action against Codex before it’s too late, you can sign a legal citizen’s petition against it at Health Freedom USA. You can also send an e-mail to your Congressperson using this simple online form.

The Codex standards are set to be applied worldwide on December 31, 2009. If you feel strongly about this issue, now is the time to voice your opinion and spread your knowledge by forwarding this article to everyone you know.

While it makes sense that this is being implemented to increase their profits rather than protect health --the headline of the article saying it is about population control reallly does not make sense and seems to divert attention to the real dangers and makes it sound like conspiricy theory which then leads many people to ignore the warnings. And saying they will remove nutrients from food seems exaggerated--how would they do this and what exactly is the language of this bill?

In 1996, the Ecologist magazine revealed that, when the Codex Alimentarius met, the German delegation put forward a proposal, sponsored by three German pharmaceutical firms, that no herb, vitamin or mineral should be sold for preventive or therapeutic reasons, and that supplements should be reclassified as drugs.[1] The 28th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission was subsequently held July 4 - July 9, 2005. [2] Among the many issues discussed were the "Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements"[3], which were adopted during the meeting as a new global standard. This text has been the subject of considerable controversy, in part because many member countries regulate these substances as therapeutic goods or pharmaceuticals and not as foods (if they were not foods, they would be excluded from the Codex Alimentarius). The text does not seek to ban supplements, but to subject them to dosage, labeling and composition requirements.

The Guidelines have attracted concern from both consumers and industry due to the potential for restrictions on vitamins and minerals as dietary supplements. The health freedom movement has pointed to greater concerns related to restrictions on dietary supplement ingredients in Europe [4] via the European Union's Food Supplements Directive [5] (which utilizes approved lists of ingredients and ingredient forms) and potentially restrictive dosage limits to be based on a Codex model via the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO) Nutrient Risk Assessment Project.

The easiest way to make nutrients in food ineffective and void is to radiate them, which is  (in my humble opinion) why they are planning to radiate all food.  Radiation perverts and destroys the integrity of the nutrients.  The molecules end up being something our bodies do not recognize as food, so our bodies will attack radiated food and then have to figure out how to get rid of it.  Being extremely difficult, it gets put in the fat cells or made into fat cells.  Toxins get put into the joints, which is one way  where we get arthritis etc from.  What an easy way to depopulate the earth!

In Canada we like to call this the "attack of the CAC".  Bills C-51 and C-52 are coming directly from this organization.  Keep sending your emails to your MPs at Lastname.Firstinitial@parl.gc.ca and stop these bills from going through.
