Cough and Cold Remedies Can Kill Your Infant

Not only are over-the-counter (OTC) cold and cough medications no better in effectiveness than a placebo, they can send your small children to the hospital or, worse still, kill them, according to a health report issued yesterday by the CDC.

Over a two-year period (2004-05), more than 1,500 babies and toddlers made trips to emergency rooms across the United States due to bad reactions to cold and cough medicines. Moreover, three of those babies who were no more than 6 months old died because they were exposed up to 14 times the safe dosage of pseudoephedrine (commonly known as Sudafed) contained in OTC drugs.

Granted, there's no predetermined dose of OTC cold and cough meds that can be deadly to a child, but even the conservative American Academy of Pediatrics began advising against their use a decade ago and other health organizations have followed suit since then.

It's far better for the long-term health of your children to address their colds and coughs more sensibly, safely and gently, and to avoid the many myths associated with them.

This is terribly upsetting.  I used to work in a Pediatric office and every friday, all of us (doctors, nurses, and office staff were treated to a fully catered lunch.  This was of course, offered by the pharmaceutical reps, who also stocked free samples of their drugs to hand out to our patients parents. You can well imagine the gratitude of the parents, especially those who could not afford these medicines. I truly wonder how a parent can be truly educated about the dangers of overmedicating these precious little ones, when they are bombarded with so many messages which makes them feel as if they aren't parenting correctly if they don't have a fully stocked medicine cabinet to deal withany and all maladies.

Unfortunetly many doctors will recommend cough or cold medications for children to help relieve the parents concern.  Especially with all the friends & neighbors telling them they need to do something for the childs cold symptoms.

All colds are a sign that ascorbates are needed.  L-lysine and l-proline will help protect the virus from spreading throughout the body.  Visit www.ashnow.com/888058 for more knowledge.  Humans are not able to produce ascorbates that's why you never wild animals with a cold.

I'm skeptical. Your products all seem to be multi-vitamins. Eating a proper diet for your metabolic type with good locally produced, unprocessed foods should provide a person's nutrients. Not a pill.

Oh my gosh!  I have a two month old and have been stupid enough to give him very small doses of infant tylenol. I wish I had read this prior. I try not to introduce anything synthetic or harmful into his system and will never give him OTC medicine again if I can get by without it. And I do have to say that the Tylenol did not help ease his pain at all.
