Drug Companies Influence Breast Cancer Treatment Studies

You may recall the ridiculous and dangerous bias that drugmakers show toward their own useless and toxic concoctions in the studies they fund. The very same thing is true for breast cancer treatment trials, according to a new report.

Again, the numbers tell the real story here, based on a review of 140 studies published in 1993 (45), 1998 (39) and 2003 (56) and culled from 10 medical journals:

  • 48 percent of all the studies considered were tainted in some way by drug company funding.
  • Drug company funding for these breast cancer studies increased from 44 percent to 58 percent by the end of the study.
  • 84 percent of the studies published in 2003 funded by drug companies yielded positive results versus 54 percent from other funding sources.
  • 66 percent of the 2003 studies were single-arm studies, meaning a drug's effectiveness wasn't tested by a comparison group.

One more interesting factoid worth noting that tells you all you need to know about how damning this study really is: Three of the four researchers who worked on it do consulting for drug companies, including Merck, AstraZeneca and GlaxoSmithKline.

Sadly, the value of all research is questionable. I have spent twenty eight years in Television and have conducted many thousands of interviews on health related topics. I have also spent the last sixteen years studying natural health and have been trained in a natural health modality. I discovered early in my career that the results from studies were contradictory in many cases and that you need to look at who funded the research, who commissioned it, who conducted it and what they were expecting to find. It's unfortunate that one needs to be that skeptical but that is the reality of the situation.

So, where do we get reliable information?  I would suggest that all women start looking at the their diet and environment to prevent breast cancer.  The cosmetic industry is not regulated and companies are allowed to use known carcinogens in their products.  A great resource for information on products is www.ewg.org.  I would urge you to simplify your beauty routine and seek out natural products. Anything that you put on your body will enter your blood stream and your poor liver is trying to filter out all of the toxins.  Natural products use essential oils so when you start smelling real smells it is very refreshing compared to synthetic fake fragrances.  Have you looked at the list of ingredients on the mainstream products lately?  It really would take a rocket scientist to explain all of the chemicals.  Another crucial key to prevention is eat according to your metabolic type, as well as, purchase organic, free-range meats, fruits & veggies.  As far as environment, switch to all natural cleaning products.  Let's work on preventing breast cancer and not treating it!

Utterly despicable! Private interests own this country and this article points out that obvious fact.

I'm reminded of the satire of the older Woody Allen movie, 'Sleeper', in which cigarettes are proven in the future to be "GOOD FOR YOU".

Given the current morass of flat out lies, hype, and falsification of Big Pharma funded studies, at PANDEMIC rates, the only logical CURE would seem to trust your own judgment, and AVOID unnecessarybranded drugs that do more harm than good.

Stop purchasing Pharma drugs and these CROOKS go out of business.

Studies and analysis are  almost always going to show  what the drug manufacture wants them to show. There have been several very good studies showing that vitamin d is related to a 50% reduction in breast cancer. These studies  where obviously not done by drug companies. There is very often a real disconnect between what the study really shows and the conclusions written by headline writers. Sales is the driving force in the drug industry and as with any other product it pays to look carefully into the claims made for prescription drugs
