High-Protein Meals Can Help the Overweight Burn Fat

Higher-protein meals may help overweight and obese people burn more fat.

A new study found that overweight men and women burned more post-meal fat when they ate a high-protein breakfast and lunch than when they had lower-protein meals. The added protein seemed to modify the fat-burning deficit seen in heavy individuals.

A number of studies have suggested that high-protein diets may help people shed weight more easily.

Nanciesweb-Controversing both yours and Dr Mercolas opininion: I don`t believe in some distinctly different nutrition types . I think that about 3 years experience from Sweden contradict that .Sure there are some different genetical weaknesses but not more than that. Basicly we all are quite equal. The basic problem is that we not are fully adapted to agricultural food-especially not when excluding proteines and saturated / singel-unsaturated fat. These are essentual to all human beeings.Carbs are not. Your liver produce carbs out of the former ones when necessary for the brains demandings.

nanciesweb, I own the Wolcott and Fahey book. I took their test and was identified as a strong protein type. I followed their recommendations to the letter and it was an utter failure. I felt sluggish, I craved vegetables, I gained weight and put a hole in my budget. I gave it a month and, having seen nothing but negative results, abandoned it and returned to the diet that has suited me all my life.

I do think there are different metabolic types. I'm not convinced that any test can identify them. Listen to your body: it will tell you what it needs for optimal health.

It's interesting to see how some vegetarians do quite well with a vegetarian diet, while others do not (not vegans, btw)

It's also interesting to see how many people do well on the Atkin's diet and yet others have serious medical issues when trying it.

Metabolic typing didn't originate with Dr Mercola.  You can look up "The Metabolic Typing Diet: Customize Your Diet to Your Own Unique Body Chemistry" by William Linz Wolcott and Trish Fahey on Amazon, although I think it's also sold on this site.

I do agree that MOST people can do without carbs, especially those who's heritage originated in the colder climates where eating veggies was limited.  Sweden falls into this catagory.  The best test would have been done with a sampling of people from around the world.

When eating more proteins and fat (you need to combine them) you will eat less carbs-and then you`ll go in the right direction! To much carbs cause high blodinsulin-getting you fatter-high blodinsulin prohibits fat burning and then you are on the way to obesity, diabetes 2 and several other metabolic-syndrome-deseases. So it works! In Sweden it`s proved! In the US too. Dr Mercola can explain this too,I think!

If you are a carb type, you would need carbs in the form of vegetables and fruit.

This holiday season is proving to be difficult to stick to a high protein low carb diet for me.  We are eating at my mother's house, and I volunteered to make a few dishes.  Of  course, they'll be appropriate for my type so I won't succumb to the very tempting dishes my mother makes.
