Return to Breastfeeding Urged Amid China Scandal

China's contaminated milk products scandal, which has resulted in thousands of children being hospitalized with kidney illnesses, has reignited calls from medical experts for a return to breastfeeding.

Breast milk has more carbohydrates, easily digestible protein, and the nutrients, vitamins and minerals than formula does. UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a statement last week calling for the return to breast milk for infants.

"No infant formula contains the perfect combination of proteins, carbohydrates and fats to enhance infant growth and brain development as breast milk does," according to UNICEF and WHO.

While I definitely, 100% agree that Mother's milk is best, there are, sadly, some of us who are unable to nurse. I'm saddened every time I read a posting where everyone is so adamently against bottle feeding. If I hadn't bottle fed, my daughter wouldn't be here. And while the baby receives many protective nutrients from the mother, I'm aghast to discover that a mother's breast milk has been found to be the most toxic thing there is. Since I didn't know then about heavy metal poisoning and all the other "bad" things that are in our body, I'm not so sure breast feeding would have been the "best way to go" anyway. I do wish, though, that I would have been given more information on the different types of infant formula available and which were/are the best. My daughter developed an allergy to milk, and her Pediatrician had us go to soy formula. Having read all the bad things about soy, I would have liked to have had other options to choose from.

It made me wonder why they weren't breastfeeding in the first place.

It shows and proves what some people are willing to do just for their own profits, even poisoning babies. The world would be so much better if these kind of scum were gotten rid of.
