U.S. Obesity Epidemic Continues to Grow

Despite efforts to encourage Americans to lose weight, the number of U.S. adults who are obese increased almost 2 percent between 2005 and 2007.

In 2007, 25.6 percent of adults reported being obese, compared to 23.9 percent in 2005.

The percentage of obese adults who are obese varies by state and region. In Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee, 30 percent of the residents reported being obese, compared with 18.7 percent in Colorado, which had the lowest prevalence of obesity.

Obesity was most prevalent in the South, with 27 percent of residents classified as obese. In the Midwest, the number was 25.3 percent. In the Northeast, it was 23.3 percent, and in the West, 22.1 percent.

Remember the Lay's potato chip commercial?  Bet you can never eat just one!  Without the MSG added, it would be a lot easier!  MSG is added to many foods, including at the restaurant.  Restaurants make money by your eating.  The more you eat, the more they sell!  Then add the high fructose corn syrups which are addicting, and the artificial sweeteners which make you hungrier, it's no wonder America has an obesity problem!  Oh, not to mentioned the microwaved "food" people shove in their mouths.  The body has to cover that with fat because it sees it as an invader since it has now been molecularly perverted.
OH!!  Sorry!  I'm preaching to the wrong crowd!  You guys already know all this!  But at least you make me feel better because you listen.  Everyone else thinks I'm crazy!  :-)

I agree with BMC.

Was in the conventional grocery the other day.  In our tiny town i've not much choice in where to shop, but this one does carry a lot of organic food.

I think what struck me most this visit was how people must not be educated properly.  They seem to have heard the "low fat," "transfats" & "sugar" is bad message loud & clear.  So i saw carts filled with diet sodas, "O grams Transfat" chips, & non-fat milk & yogurt.

It was enough to make me want to bang my head on the wall.  These people would tell you they eat a healthy diet!  The media encourages them to think so.  I think it is simply Standard American Diet in a new form:  cancer-causing agents replacing the fat & sugar.

Despite efforts to encourage American's to lose weight....!
How about efforts to stop the production of processed foods, and the use of toxic additives? How about efforts to stop GMO crops and the over use of corn, soy, and growth hormones. How about discouraging all diets that do nothing to teach people how to eat and cause rebound weight gain.

This is like someone who bangs their head against a wall and makes every effort to stop the pain, except to stop banging their head against the wall.

I'M SURPRISED AMERICA ISN'T OVER 50% OBESE!  Most understand little about digestion or what foods can easily be digested together and which one's use more energy during digestion than what they provide our bodies with.  We eat protein with carbs while diluting our stomach acids with beverages.

We drink water full of fluoride which destroys our thyroid and pineal gland.

Many Americans have no idea what Aspartame, MSG, BGH, Hydrogenized Oils, High Fructose Corn Syrup are or what foods they can be found in.

It's called enslavement.  People freely choose to be enslaved because they have been manipulated by advertising.  America spends the most of any other country on advertising unhealthy or unnecessary food, medications, and things which end up destroying the planet.  Then to feel better Americans purchase new light bulbs from the same corporations that we originally paid to destroy the planet so we can cut down on carbon.  :)  BRILLIANT IDEA PEOPLE!!!

The more the carbon levels rise the less nutritional value our foods have the more foods we need to eat in order to get our energy.  It's a big web.  Web of disaster if we don't wake up and fix it.

It just tastes so good.......  Because there are drugs/chemicals in your food to enhance flavor and to make you crave that food again.  MARIJUANA IS NOT "THE GATEWAY DRUG"!!  OUR FOOD SUPPLY IS!!!  MSG found in baby formula is a gateway drug!  Aspartame in your chewing gum and diet soda is a gateway drug.  How much is too much?  If an "average" american chews one piece of gum per day and has at least one soda is that enough?  is that once a week enough?   How about if you add a fast food meal?  Milk with BGH to the processed cereal for breakfast?  A cigarette?  3 beers?  8 glasses of Philadelphia water which includes 53 pharmaceticals
